People all over the world talk about the interior designers they’ve had design their office buildings, restaurants, and residential homes. They mention things like interior decoration, room themes, and design styles. But what does any of that mean?

Well, interior design is simply the art and business of planning the appearance of a certain room or building. Often times, interior designers specialize in a specific style or two, which means that they create spaces with certain themes. For instance, a home with a southwestern style might have Native American artwork and curtain that are the color turquoise. A home with a formal style might have structured furniture and black/white furnishings. So style dictates what items are purchased for the home.

Of course, not all rooms of the house need to have the same theme or design style, though it does make it easier on the designer. Often times, you will see homes with a designer living room but an “anything goes” bedroom. Of course, in the better homes, you will see a design style run through an entire house, with certain rooms containing a more subtle air than others. Either way, once you figure out the terms, design can be anything you make it.
